7-year old Salim was born with total hearing loss and his deafness was identified when he was a year and a half. Due to lack of awareness about deafness, Salim and his family received no support till the 19th of May, 2010 when a screening camp was conducted by VAANI at Ward 56 in BB Bagan, Kolkata, West Bengal. Salim now receives formalised teaching from the special educators at VAANI and his parents receive necessary support and information about the issues that surround childhood deafness.
