Training Workshops in Gujarat
Two-day work shops were held in October for teachers from different
institutes in Gujarat on the use of the teaching and learning kits
designed and produced by Umang School, Ahmedabad in collaboration with
VAANI. Over a 100 participants attended these workshops which were held
in Bhavnagar, Amreli, Himatnagar, Kapadvanj and Ahmedabad.
The workshops began with a short presentation and discussion about
communication, language and speech along with a few simulation
exercises. This was followed by intensive work with the kits. During
the demonstration and discussion, multiple levels with different
complexities of use were discussed. The use of large pictures was
demonstrated and discussed.
On the following day, the sequence stories, visualised conversations
and verbs were discussed. The auditory training CD ‘Learning to Listen’
was also demonstrated to all. Kits were given to the participating
Institutes. The response to these workshops, and to the wonderfully
designed kits, has been very positive, and more such workshops will be
held in the coming months.
