In Assam, VAANI works with Swabalambi, a very committed partner organisation in Assam, to provide services to deaf children in the State.
Working with SSA
In Assam, VAANI has been working closely with the Sarba Siksha Abhijan Mission.
A State level seminar and workshop for SSA teachers was conducted and a workshop was organised by the SSA in collaboration with VAANI. The participants were all the District Project Officers from the 23 districts, CBR workers from our partner organisation Swabalambi and parents from all 23 districts. The workshop was on ‘Orientation on Hearing Impairment’ in which many issues surrounding deafness, which are generally overlooked and neglected, were discussed.
Subsequent to this initial training, visits were made by the VAANI team with SSA officials to the various districts. Since then VAANI has been providing skill training to SSA workers so that the needs of deaf children are addressed in a professional manner.
