Creating New Horizons - Project with CINI-Asha
Creating New Horizons - VAANI has partnered with CINI-Asha for a project supported by Axis Bank Foundation and CCHD, UK to provide access to pre primary and primary education for deaf children in the slums of Kolkata. This project currently covers 4 Municipal wards in slum areas of Kolkata.
The project aims to enable parents and the extended family of deaf children to fully support the educational development of their young deaf children and to increase the ability of the government workers, education professionals and non government organisations (NGOs) to meet the pre-primary and primary level educational needs of every deaf child.
The training team at VAANI looks at education for the deaf in a holistic way. They don’t endorse one way of teaching the deaf but customise learning for the individual. Learning the way in which they can learn is their focus.
VAANI hopes that educating all stakeholders of a deaf child will make for a safe and secure environment for the child to grow in. Education will give the deaf child a chance to have a better life, an opportunity to fend and provide for themselves and the prospect of moving into the apartments next door.
