Spastic Society of Mizoram

Spastic Society of Mizoram works with all disabilities and runs a school called The Gilead Special School for Multi-handicapped Children. They have 45 hearing handicapped children on the roll this year. The problem of the hearing handicapped children in Mizoram is that parents are not prepared or cannot afford to educate the HI child because he/she needs extra effort and time. The older children are now undergoing vocational training at the Centre. They have 4 trained special teachers for HI.


Spastic Society is trying to make those deaf children who cannot continue education proficient in other fields like art, painting, envelope making, tailoring, embroidery and candle making etc. They plan to work with the families of deaf children. They are the only institution in Mizoram providing any services to the hearing impaired. They have residential facilities for children with CP, MR and Autism.
